Australia Centenary of Commonwealth Age Pension 2009 $1 Aluminium-Bronze Uncirculated Coin Pack

Impossible to find in change in anything other than well-worn condition, we have the unique, one-year-only 2009 Age Pension $1 available in strictly Uncirculated quality – at a price to please all pockets!

The 2009 Age Pension $1 was struck by the Royal Australian Mint to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Commonwealth Age Pension in Australia. Leading the way in social policy, Australia received Royal Assent for the Age Pension in 1908. Officially beginning in July of 1909, the Age Pension has formed the core element of Australia’s social welfare system ever since, and embodies the respect Australians have for those who helped build the nation.

Symbolising the interconnectedness of the Australian community, the reverse design features two pensioners surrounded by people of all ages. Depicted in such a way as to form the shape of Australia, this symbolic motif represents the willingness of all Australians to support the elderly in our community. An official Australian legal tender issue, the obverse of this unique, one-year-only type features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley.
