Australia End of WWII 60th Anniversary 2005 20c Coming Home Cupro-Nickel Uncirculated Coin Pack

Australia End of WWII 60th Anniversary 2005 20c Coming Home Cupro-Nickel Uncirculated Coin Pack

A unique, one-year-only Australian legal tender type, the 2005 Coming Home 20c was issued to mark the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

Struck by the Royal Australian Mint, Canberra, the 2005 Coming Home 20c highlights the return of Australian servicemen and women after the conflict. Nearly 600,000 Australian servicemen and women served overseas during the Second World War, separated from their families and friends as a result of their willingness to defend the Australian nation.

A poignant reflection upon the sacrifice of those who served overseas during the conflict, the reverse motif of the 2005 Coming Home 20c is based on an original Australian War Memorial photograph of ex-Prisoner of War Private William Leslie Darcy meeting his wife Lorna and daughter Jacquie upon his return to Australia in 1945. Official Australian legal tender, struck by the Royal Australian Mint, the obverse carries the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
