Australia International Year of Older Persons 1999 $1 Aluminium-Bronze Uncirculated Coin Pack

Australia International Year of Older Persons 1999 $1 Aluminium-Bronze Uncirculated Coin Pack

A unique, one-year-only Australian legal tender type, the 1999 Older Persons $1 was struck by the Royal Australian Mint to honour the United Nations’ International Year of Older Persons.

The UN made the decision to declare 1999 the International Year of Older Persons in 1992, in large part to recognise the rapidly ageing nature of society. In 1999, there were 580 million people aged 60 and over – by 2050, this figure is expected to top the two billion mark. The International Year of Older Persons helped to make the issue of ageing a developmental priority, and shine the spotlight on to a ‘Society for All Ages’ underpinned by solidarity, respect and exchanges between all generations.

The 1999 Older Persons $1 is graced with the official logo of the UN International Year of Older Persons, with the eye-catching array of swirls representing the never-ending development of people of all ages. An official Australian legal tender issue, and a unique, one-year-only type, the obverse carries the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley.

Impossible to secure from circulation in premium grade, with nearly 30 years having passed since issue, you must not miss the chance to own the 1999 Older Persons $1 in strictly Uncirculated condition. Click add to cart now!
